System pipework pressure testing allows the integrity and soundness of pipes, joint fittings and other components to be determined, ensuring that pipelines are fit for use before being put into service. The maximum capacity can be established, any leaks identified and the strength of the pipeline and its ability to withstand pressure verified.
Water Regulation 12 requires that: “The water system shall be capable of withstanding an internal water pressure not less than 1½ times the maximum pressure to which the installation or relevant part is designed to be subjected in operation.“ The test is passed if the pressure in the system is maintained for one hour and there is no visible leakage throughout the test.
