Passive Fire Protection Engineer – UK Wide (National)

Summary

Urmson Fire Specialists Ltd (USF) seek a driven Passive Fire Protection Engineer. We require a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the fire protection business, with suitable qualifications such as FSIDip, SSSTS, NVQ Level 2 Passive Fire Protection (min), FIRAS, and FDIS.

Main duties are to carry out site inspections; identifying defects and using knowledge of fire compartmentation, firestopping, fire doors and cavity barriers to pass findings on to our estimating team in order to formulate a price and schedule of works.

UFS core business activities are fire and smoke damper testing and surveys, fire compartmentation surveys, fire door inspections, ventilation ductwork, and kitchen extract cleaning. UFS has an extensive portfolio delivering major contracts to the NHS, hospitals, universities and facility management companies.

Job Role

  • Undertake site inspections and surveys relating to passive fire protection such as fire stopping, facades, fire doors, cavity barriers, ductwork, fire dampers, and fire-resistant coatings
  • Take a hands-on and proactive approach to identify defects and other non-compliances, photographing and reporting these using Boris software
  • Ensure the passive fire protection within buildings is installed in accordance with certified details, fire test reports, and manufacturers requirements
  • Experience in installation/application of Intumescent coatings, firestopping systems, cavity barriers, structural boarding etc (DESIRABLE)
  • Support the sales team in responding to requests for professional and technical advice
  • Carry out other UFS services as and when required
  • Participate in all pre-job “Tool Box Talks”
  • Wear proper PPE according to safety procedures
  • Compliance with company policies, procedures, and processes 

Person Specification

  • Educated to higher education level, preferably in science or engineering
  • Min 3 years’ experience of surveying in the Passive Fire Protection industry
  • Sound knowledge of BS: 9999:2017, HTM 05-02, HTM 05-03 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 regulations
  • Good knowledge of firestopping products, installation methods and building regulations
  • Proven ability to work methodically, follow agreed procedures and accurately record data
  • Work on own initiative, and spot potential other works
  • Experience of working in a customer-focused environment
  • Ability to accurately interpret technical data, drawings and instructions
  • Ability to demonstrate organisational and time management skills
  • Represent and promote the business in a professional and positive manner

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the fire protection business carrying out fire compartmentation surveys and fire door inspections

• Sound understanding of electrical fire systems design and industry regulations including BS: 9999:2017, HTM 05-02, HTM 05-03 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

• Developed IT skills (eg Excel, Word etc)

• FIRAS / FSIDip accredited

• NVQ Level 2 Passive Fire Protection (min)

• FDIS certified (DESIRABLE)

• CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card

• SSSTS certified

• Asbestos awareness

• Successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check

• Driving licence
