Project Description

LEGIONELLA RISK ASSESSMENTS

Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by the inhalation of small droplets of contaminated water containing legionella. All man-made hot and cold water systems are likely to provide an environment where legionella can grow. It is a simple fact that the organism will colonise both large and small systems so both require risks to be managed effectively.

Systems that can harbour legionella and release droplets into the air include cooling towers, evaporative condensers, humidifiers, domestic water systems, spa pools, sprinklers, hose reels, lathe coolants, fountains, car washes and horticultural misting.

We are able to offer you a complete legionella risk assessment service giving you full peace of mind. One of our qualified risk assessors will visit your site to carry out a thorough investigation of your water system and undergo a comprehensive site survey.

Our assessors are not only fully trained in carrying out legionella risk assessments, but also in ensuring the safety of everyone whilst the assessment is carried out. All engineers carry the CSCS passport to safety and are all enhanced DBS checked to ensure confidence when working on site and in areas with vulnerable people.

Our legionella risk assessments service includes:

  • Review of existing risk assessment (if available)

  • Carry out a preliminary survey of water systems

  • Review of schematic drawings (if available, if not available create schematic drawings)

  • Assess management procedures

  • Carry out condition survey according to legionella control requirements

  • Evaluate legionella risk and provide possible control options

  • Provide a full legionella risk assessment report with actions, remedials and recommendations

Our collaborative and proactive approach drives efficiency, cost savings and offers our clients peace of mind. We are committed to continuous improvement, through innovation and investment in our personnel, methodologies and equipment.

We offer extremely competitive rates and daytime or evenings to offer minimal disturbance to our customers.

If you are an employer, or someone in control of premises, including landlords, you must understand the health risks associated with legionella.

Duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA) extend to risks from legionella bacteria, which may arise from work activities. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR) provide a broad framework for controlling health and safety at work.  More specifically, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) provide a framework of actions designed to assess, prevent or control the risk from bacteria like legionella and take suitable precautions.  The Approved Code of Practice (ACOP): Legionnaires’ disease: The control of legionella bacteria in water systems (L8) contains practical guidance on how to manage and control the risks in your system.

As an employer, or a person in control of the premises, you are responsible for health and safety and need to take the right precautions to reduce the risks of exposure to legionella. You must understand how to:

• identify and assess sources of risk
• manage any risks
• prevent or control any risks
• keep and maintain the correct records
• carry out any other duties you may have
• Identify and assess sources of risk

All persons responsible for water systems are strongly advised to hold a copy of the ACOP and HSG274 for reference.
