TMV or Thermostatic Mixer Valve is a device that is designed to control water temperature for showers, baths and outlets. These devices require servicing on a regular bases in order for them to function correctly. Maintenance schedules should take into account local conditions (for example hard water or limescale) and the risk of valve failure.

All water services should be operated at temperatures that prevent Legionella growth: Hot water storage cylinders (calorifiers) should store water at 60°C or higher; Hot water should be distributed at 50°C or higher (thermostatic mixer valves need to be fitted as close as possible to outlets, where a scald risk is identified); and Cold water should be stored and distributed below 20°C.

It is a requirement that all TMVs are fail checked regularly depending on your organisation to ensure they are still achieving the desired temperature. If temperature control fluctuates more than 2 degrees from the original setting then a full service will be required.

All TMVs are tested to Building Regulations (Part G, 3.66 – Prevention of Scalding), BS EN 1111, BS EN 1287 and Health Technical Memorandum HTM 04-01 – Performance specification D 08: thermostatic mixing valves (healthcare premises) regulations and guidelines. All testing instruments are UKAS calibrated to national standards and copies of certification are supplied with reports.

Our engineers are not only fully trained in carrying out TMV testing, but also in ensuring the safety of everyone whilst testing is carried out. All engineers carry the CSCS passport to safety and are all enhanced DBS checked to ensure confidence when working on site and in areas with vulnerable people.
